Free Fonts and Personal Use

Are the Free Trial Fonts Really Free?

The Free Trial Fonts are free to use in student work, Personal Non-Comercial Social Media Accounts (Must Tag or Mention @Vanilla_Type) in pitching designs to clients, spec work, and portfolio work. You may also use trial fonts for personal use; meaning projects that are not commercially published.
What Does "Personal Use" really mean?

Personal Projects are things that you do not make any money from or projects that are not commercially published. For example student work, design work just as a hobby, posts on personal non-commercial social media accounts. Font Licensing

Is My License Good For Forever?

Yes. Vanilla Type Fonts are design to stand the test of time and be used for as long as you are alive, so doesn't it just make sense that the license should last that long as well. In today's economic environment many type companies are turning to yearly renewable licenses. Vanilla Type's Number one priority is making sure you, the client,  happy, worry free, and that your best interests when it comes to type and running their business are taken care of. The only Time you will need to upgrade or update your license is according the your company size.
Do I Ever Need to Update or Upgrade My license?

Possibly. Vanilla Type Licenses are based strictly on company size and use case. I you need at add a use case to your license yo will need to purchase a license for that specific use case. As an example maybe you bought the Print/Image License but now you would like to add the font(s) to your website... You will need to Purchase a Web License to do so. Additionally if you company grows in size and reaches the next threshold of number of employees you will need to upgrade your license accordingly. In the case of a company growing and needing to upgrade their license size a discount will be provided to subtract the cost of the original license from the total of the upgraded license.
What License Do I Need for Social Media?

The Print/Image License Covers use on social media and is based strictly on company size (number of employees)
What License Do I Need for Merch and products?

The Print/Image License Covers use on Merchandise and products and is based strictly on company size (number of employees)
What License Do I Need for Advertising?

If you are running ads on social media you will need to purchase the Print/Image License. If you are running ads on television or streaming services you will need to purchase the Broadcasting License.
What License Do I Need for Movies and Series?

You will need to purchase a broadcasting license to use te fonts in movies or series for things like titles, and credits, Subtitles and overlays. If you will be designing props that will appear in the film you will need to purchase a Print/Image License
What License Do I Need for Youtube?

What License Do I Need for My Website?

If you will be embedding the font into your website you will need to purchase a web license. if you will be putting images that include the font on your website you will need to purchase the Print/Image License
What License Do I Need for a Video Game?

Video Games are covered under the App License
What License Do I Need for a Logo?
+
If you wish to make a logo using a Vanilla Font you will need to purchase a logo license. It is not permitted to register a trademarked logo using only a Vanilla Font without my written permission. This is to avoid bad acting in any given industry that would limit the use of specific words being typeset in a Vanilla Font. If you wish to Register a trademark of a logo that includes a Vanilla Font please reach out via email letters [at] vanillatype.com

Refunds

Can I get a Refund for My Purchase?

No, Because of the nature of a digital product you have permanent access to the file once it is purchased and therefor to avoid any unwanted litigation on either end Refunds are not offered. Vanilla type offers Free Trial Fonts for testing purposes and encourages you to use them to make sure you are satisfied with the performance of the Font(s) before you make a purchase. If an incorrect license is accidentally purchased or the same font is purchased twice please reach out to letter [at] vanillatype.com and we can resolve the issue.

Customization and Bespoke Fonts

Does Vanilla Type Offer a Custom Typeface Design Service?

Does Vanilla Type Offer Modification of Existing Typefaces?

Can I Modify a Vanilla Type Font I have Purchased?

If you convert it to outlines, you can edit the contours, shapes and curves of the font. However, you cannot customize the font file itself or use the contours you’ve created to generate a new version of the font file.
Can I Get A Variable Font For a Single Width?

Yes, if you would like to get a variable font for a single width (let's say Vanilla Grotesque 300 For example. You can totally do that just reach out at harbor[at]vanillatype.com and we can talk about making it happen.

Can I Have My Work Featured on Vanilla Type Socials?

Can I Have a Font I designed Sold by Vanilla Type?

While Vanilla Type is not currently looking to add any type designers to our roster I am always happy to hear from you see what you are working on chat about type.
